Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy

A Child and Adolescent Therapist is a trained mental health professional who specialises in supporting young people as they navigate the many emotional, behavioural, and developmental challenges of growing up.

Childhood and adolescence are key stages of development, often filled with rapid changes in emotions, identity, relationships, and learning. A therapist who works with this age group understands these transitions and creates a safe, supportive space where children and teens can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at their own pace.

Therapists use a range of approaches including talk therapy, play, creative expression, and body based techniques depending on the age and needs of the child or adolescent. Therapy may focus on things like:

  • Anxiety, stress, or low mood

  • School or peer difficulties

  • Family changes or conflict

  • Grief and loss

  • Identity and self-esteem

  • Trauma or difficult life events

  • Emotional regulation and coping strategies

Therapy for young people also includes working in partnership with parents and carers. Support is always tailored  each young person is met where they are, with compassion, curiosity, and respect for their unique voice and experience.

A Child and Adolescent Therapist is specially trained to understand the inner world of young people how they think, feel, and respond to what’s happening in their lives. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, low mood, peer difficulties, family changes, or simply navigating the ups and downs of growing up, therapy offers a safe space for them to make sense of things in their own time and in their own way.

We use a variety of approaches, from creative play with younger children to reflective, relational work with adolescents. Each session is adapted to your child’s age, personality, and needs. As parents, you are an essential part of the process. We work alongside you – offering guidance, support, and insight – so you feel informed and connected to your child’s therapeutic journey. Our aim is to strengthen not just the young person, but the support around them.

If you are feeling unsure about where to start, you are not alone. Reaching out is the first step, and we are here to walk that path with you.
