Thelma Gilmore is a dedicated Therapeutic Play Practitioner with a postgraduate certificate in therapeutic play and is currently completing a postgraduate diploma in play therapy. She holds an Honours Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education and brings more than 20 years of leadership experience running early years centres.

Throughout her career, Thelma has been committed to creating supportive, child-centred environments where young children can thrive. She is passionate about building resilience in children and strongly believes that early supports and timely interventions are essential for healthy emotional development. Her therapeutic approach draws on both non-directive and directive play therapy models, recognising the value of giving children the freedom to lead their own process while also providing structured guidance when needed.

In non-directive sessions, Thelma offers a safe and accepting space where children can express themselves freely through play, helping them uncover and work through feelings at their own pace. When using directive techniques, she incorporates purposeful activities and play-based interventions that help children develop coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and problem-solving abilities.

Thelma supports children and their parents or carers by fostering positive change, rebuilding connection when challenges arise, and strengthening the sense of safety within the caregiver–child relationship. Her approach creates space for security, exploration, and meaningful healing. Across her practice, Thelma remains dedicated to using evidence-informed methods that strengthen children and families, promote emotional wellbeing, and build confidence and lasting resilience.
