Supervision for the Student Therapist
Embarking on your journey as a trainee therapist is both a personal and professional transformation. It involves learning how to hold space for others, while navigating the demands of academic requirements, placement work, and your own emotional development. Supervision is a vital part of this journey, a place where you can pause, reflect, and be supported as you grow into the role of therapist.
As a clinical supervisor, we provide a safe, supportive, and structured space for student therapists to:
-
Reflect on their client work and therapeutic relationships
-
Deepen self-awareness and emotional insight
-
Explore ethical dilemmas and professional boundaries
-
Integrate theory and skills from training into real-world practice
-
Strengthen confidence, creativity, and resilience
The Approach
We offer a relational and integrative model of supervision, underpinned by a deep respect for the personal development that underlies therapeutic training. We recognise the vulnerability and courage it takes to work with clients while still learning. Our role is to guide, challenge, and encourage you, gently and appropriately, so that supervision becomes a trusted and enriching part of your training.
Every student brings a unique lens, and our work together will be shaped by your modality, personality, and stage of development. Our intention is to help you connect the dots between your academic learning and your lived experience of being with clients.
What to expect in Supervision
Whether you are just beginning your placement or approaching qualification, supervision will offer you:
-
A consistent space to reflect on what's going well and what feels stuck
-
Support in managing uncertainty, imposter syndrome, or performance anxiety
-
Guidance in making ethical and clinical decisions
-
Encouragement to develop your own therapeutic voice and identity
-
Space to discuss personal responses or triggers that may arise in your work
-
Practical tools and reflective questions to support your growth
Supervision is not about having all the answers, it's about being curious, open, and willing to learn. Our role is to walk alongside you as you find your way.
Supporting Academic and Placement Requirements
At the Supervision Clinic we are familiar with the needs of student therapists who are working through accredited training programmes. We will provide:
-
Written supervision reports as required by your training provider
-
Clear documentation of supervision hours
-
Structured reflection to support academic assignments and case discussions
-
Alignment with your training institution’s ethical framework
If you are looking for a supervisor who understands both the clinical and emotional complexities of training, we would be happy to connect. Whether you are on your first placement or looking for support through to qualification, we will offer a collaborative and empowering space where your learning can thrive.
Let’s begin with a short consultation to see if we are the right fit.
